Brandon Van Slyke

Hello and welcome to the online hub for everything Brandon Van Slyke!

I'm a creative software developer with a background in game design, full-stack development, and applied AI. I build interactive experiences and tools using Python, open-source LLMs, and modern web technologies. Feel free to check out my site to learn more about who I am and what I do.

Thanks for stopping by!

What I Do

My passion lies in making cool things that bridge the gap between technology and creativity. Over the years I've had the opportunity to collaborate with some very talented teams on interesting and unique projects. I've also cultivated many diverse interests and hobbies, enabling me to explore new and exciting possibilities within the technology industry. With my combination of skills and knowledge, I strive to create innovative products that can captivate users from all walks of life.

Software & AI

I view software and AI as ways to solve problems and explore new creative possibilities. I have worked mostly with Python and JavaScript on a variety of projects, but my biggest interest at the moment is applied AI. I enjoy learning new models and techniques and putting them to use in practical ways.

Web Development

I enjoy building for the web because it makes ideas immediately accessible. I have worked with React on the front end and with Python frameworks like Flask and Django on the back end. What matters most to me is creating projects that people find both useful and enjoyable.

Programming

Programming, to me, is the art of problem solving. Python is my main focus, but I also work with JavaScript, Java, C++, and SQL when projects call for it. I see programming as a lifelong learning process, and I value having a breadth of knowledge to draw from.

Game Design

Game design has always been a passion of mine, and I’ve contributed to shipped titles including Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 and Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?. That experience showed me that making games is as much about teamwork and iteration as it is about creativity and design.

Creative Background

I learned 3D art and animation at Vancouver Film School and the Art Institute of Vancouver. I still enjoy working in Blender today. Writing has also been a consistent interest, ranging from technical documentation to short fiction. I enjoy the process of telling stories, and my creative side continues to shape how I approach building and problem solving.

Projects & Collaboration

I have worked on projects in software, games, and healthcare, and I have learned that the best results come from communication and collaboration as much as from technical skill. I like being involved from the first ideas through to the finished product and helping the team stay aligned along the way.
